There is a gift that surpasses all others and there is none to compare with this most wonderful gift. This gift is the Gift that God gave to the world when He gave His only Beloved Son. God made man and greatly delighted in His creation of man. Man and Woman were unique in that they were the only of all of God’s creation that was made in the image of God Himself. Man is the only one with a soul and a spirit. God is Spirit and God made man with the ability to have fellowship with God Himself and to live in communion with Him.
God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them; Genesis 1:27,28a
The Lord loved Adam and Eve and when they sinned the Lord’s heart was broken, just as our hearts breaks when our children turn our backs on us as parents. He wanted the relationship restored and He made a promise of a gift to them that would be available for all of their descendants…to whoever would receive God’s gift to restore them to their relationship with God, of being His child.
The Lord God said to the serpent,
“Because you have done this,
Cursed are you more than all cattle,
And more than every beast of the field;
On your belly you will go,
And dust you will eat
All the days of your life;
And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her seed;
He shall bruise you on the head,
And you shall bruise him on the heel.” Genesis 3:14,15
The Lord promised a Savior who would come through a woman. The rest of the Old Testament is the story of how the Lord brought Jesus into the world. God used a people, the Jews, and particularly a virgin named Mary, to bring Jesus into the world.
As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries, seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow. I Peter 1:10,11
The time came for Jesus to be born. Jesus Christ was the fulfillment of all of the prophecies that He would send a Savior and that whoever would believe in Him would have eternal life. Their guilt would be removed and their sins would be forgiven and forgotten by God and they would have eternal life.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16
This gift of God’s love is offered to all. However, just like any gift that is offered, it must be received to come into the possession of the one to whom it is offered. Each person must receive the gift that God offers and that is His beloved Son, Jesus Christ.
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:12,13
Those who receive this greatest gift ever given become God’s children. Their sins are forgiven and they are restored to a personal relationship with God Himself, the Creator of the universe and they receive not only the privilege to be called by His name but they become the recipients of God’s great love.
See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. I John 3:1a
When a person experiences this love, this amazing great love, then they are never the same. They want to spend the rest of their life responding to this great love by loving others.
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. I John 4:7-10
It is love that the world longs to know. It is God’s love that God offers to the world. Those that receive His love He is well pleased with for they have received the amazing gift of His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ. This was the gift that the angels spoke of when they came to the shepherds the night that Jesus was born.
In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.” Luke 2:8-14
So, not only do those who receive God’s gift of a great love but they experience peace and a great joy.
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
If you have never known this great love then God’s invitation to you this Christmas is to come to Him and receive His gift. He will never turn away the one who comes to Him expressing their great need for a Savior. He came to save us from our sins, He came to forgive us and restore us to Himself. He came to give us love and life and this life and love is in Jesus Christ.
that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. Romans 10:9,10
