A Life Understanding Great Relationships

Understanding What Characterizes Great Relationships

Your happiness in life is directly proportional to the greatness of your relationships. There are four things that will characterize your life when you are satisfied and in right relationships. These four things are joy, gladness, thanksgiving and you will want to express the happiness in your heart through song. We all have different degrees of intimacy in our relationships which is according to the relationship. However, love and peace are what will characterize all of your relationships when they are right.

Joy and gladness will be found in her,
Thanksgiving and sound of a melody. Isaiah 51:3b

Understanding the Levels of Great Relationships

Relationships are privileges that are given to us. The first relationship that needs to be in order is a person’s relationship with God. Jesus Christ came to bring love and peace on earth to those who are in a right relationship with God. Relationships go from greater to lesser degrees of intimacy. God knows everything and is intimately acquainted with all of our ways. Nothing is hidden from Him. The next relationship, if you are married, is your relationship with your spouse. Our spouse is the next level and our spouse knows us (or should know us) better than any other human. The greatest level of love and trust should be with a spouse and it is the only relationship where you are one in body, soul and spirit, or at least should be. The next level is family relationships. The next level is friendships. The next level is neighbors and acquaintances. The last level of relationships is enemies.When a man’s ways are pleasing to the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. Proverbs 16:7 If you want to have a great marriage and if you do, life is amazingly wonderful with a great marriage. A great marriage is a taste of heaven on earth and truly the most satisfying of all relationships. However, when you get married then you take all of your other relationships into that marriage. You take all of your baggage from past relationships with you. Oftentimes we do not realize all of the baggage that we have from our past relationships until it starts to make itself known in our marriage. The best thing you can do to have a great marriage is to be restored, if possible, and healed from past relationships. Relationships are difficult because they can cause hurts. When we are young we do not choose who most of our relationships are with and have no control over the hurt that happens. However, we may not be able to control what happens to us but we can control our responses. It is not what happens to us but our response to what happens that determines the destruction in our lives. Being hurt from people can bring anger or bitterness. If we are not healed then the anger or bitterness will come out in our relationships with others. Jesus Christ is the Great Healer. If you will go to Him then He can and wants to heal you. Spiritually and emotionally healthy people have healthy relationships. Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled; Hebrews 12:14,15

A Life Filled with Wisdom

The Bible says that if you are wise then you are wise for yourself, but if you scoff you alone will bear it. What this means is that you will eat the fruit of your actions. If you are wise then your life will be sweet and if you scoff then your life will be bitter.

Proverbs 9:12 If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, And if you scoff, you alone will bear it.

How do you know if you are wise? You can not trust your heart because our hearts are deceitful. We must look at our actions to see whether we have a heart filled with God’s wisdom. A wise person is one who listens to counsel and receives it.

Proverbs 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But a wise man is he who listens to counsel.

The way a man listens to counsel is an indication of how much wisdom they have and also how they listen to reproof, which is correction. So whether it is instruction on what to do or what one is not to do, it lets you know the depth of wisdom in a person’s life.

Proverbs 9:8 Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you, Reprove a wise man and he will love you.

Do you love those who reprove you or do you find yourself getting defensive or even finding fault in the one who corrects you? A scoffer is one who turns his back on the truth. The Lord says that in the day of judgment He will scoff at the scoffers. How much better it is to get wisdom. The wise will inherit honor and it is the Lord who honors those who are wise.

Proverbs 3:35 The wise will inherit honor, But fools display dishonor.

Wise men store up knowledge. The knowledge of the Lord is the greatest knowledge of all and there is no understanding apart from Him.

Proverbs 10:14 Wise men store up knowledge, But with the mouth of the foolish, ruin is at hand.

It is a fool’s mouth that gets him in trouble and brings about his own ruin. Also, a foolish woman will tear down her house with her own hands. A foolish woman will self destruct. Do you have any habits that are destructive?

Proverbs 14:1 The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish tears it down with her own hands.

A wise person turns away from evil. If you want much grief in your life then date a fool and then if you want even more grief then marry him.

Proverbs 14:16 A wise man is cautious and turns away from evil, But a fool is arrogant and careless.

You can tell what a person is like by the kinds of friends they choose. A wise person will want to be with wise friends but a foolish person also will choose their own kind. The same goes for the scoffer. Want to know what a man is like? Look at his friends.

Proverbs 13:20 He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will suffer harm.

Wisdom is more desirable than jewels and nothing compares with her.

Proverbs 8:11 For wisdom is better than jewels;
And all desirable things cannot compare with her.

Her fruit is better than silver or gold. Wisdom will make your life sweet and deliver you from much sorrow. You will be blessed if you have wisdom and you will experience grief if you don’t.

Proverbs 8:12-21 I, wisdom, dwell with prudence,
And I find knowledge and discretion.
The fear of the Lord is to hate evil;
Pride and arrogance and the evil way
And the perverted mouth, I hate.
Counsel is mine and sound wisdom;
I am understanding, power is mine.
By me kings reign,
And rulers decree justice.
By me princes rule, and nobles,
All who judge rightly.
I love those who love me;
And those who diligently seek me will find me.
Riches and honor are with me,
Enduring wealth and righteousness.
My fruit is better than gold, even pure gold,
And my yield better than choicest silver.
I walk in the way of righteousness,
In the midst of the paths of justice,
To endow those who love me with wealth,
That I may fill their treasuries.

Jesus is the fullness of all wisdom and when you have Him then you will begin to discover His wisdom. Your heart will be encouraged because you will have received what is true wealth that will never perish and the true knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ Himself, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Colossians 2:2,3 that their hearts may be encouraged, having been knit together in love, and attaining to all the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
