A Life with Faith

All of us have faith but it is not our faith that helps us or saves us but it is the object of our faith. Some people have faith in themselves and some people have faith in others or institutions or even objects. Faith is trust and it is within us to trust something or someone. However, if what we have put our trust or faith in is not trustworthy and faithful then it will produce fear within us.

Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.

I Corinthians 4:2

Trust is the opposite of fear. Trust gives us security and fear removes security and gives insecurity. If we sat in a chair and did not have trust that it would hold us up then we would be fearful of falling and hurting ourself. If we marry someone but we can’t trust their faithfulness in the marriage then we will feel insecure. Insecurity brings on jealousy and stress that will eventually destroy us. We will also be tempted to do all sorts of things to try to give ourselves the security which we long for but will be impossible to obtain if the person or object of our trust is untrustworthy or unfaithful. True faith allows one to rest in the one he trusts in.

God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. Hebrews 6:18

The Lord Jesus Christ is the only One who is trustworthy for He can not lie. He proved His love by dying on the cross for the world, for you and for me. There is no one beyond His love. He offers forgiveness and eternal life to all. However, we must believe what He said. Faith is an act of the will and we must have faith in His Word. Feelings follow faith. We do not live by feelings but we live according to the decisions that we make with our will by faith.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

The only promises that God makes that will help us and save us are the ones that we believe.

For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard. Hebrews 4:2

The Bible says that the righteous shall live by faith. Trust in the Lord and in His Word is what pleases the Lord God. We try to please God by being “good”, which we can never be good enough. It is trusting in His goodness, His faithfulness and in His Word that pleases Him, The Lord wants us to seek Him, not seek to be “good”, for we will always fail in being “good enough” for God. Our “good” will never be able to outweigh the “bad” which we have done for we have all sinned.

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 3:23

Eternal salvation is eternal life and is a free gift from God, that can never be earned. It is from God and it is received by faith.

And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. Hebrews 11:6

Eternal life and salvation begins the moment that one puts their faith in the Lord and receives Him as the only Savior and Lord. There is salvation in no one else. Nothing else can be trusted in. Everything will eventually fail us.

God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1

Are you in trouble? Are you struggling? Do you want to live forever in God’s love? Do you long for forgiveness? Do you realize that you can never be “good enough” for God and that your “good works” can never outweigh your “bad deeds”? Come to Him.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11: 28, 29

Jesus Christ invites us to come to Him. He longs to show us His love. He longs to wrap His love around us. He longs for give us rest.

Therefore the Lord longs to be gracious to you, And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you. For the Lord is a God of justice; How blessed are all those who long for Him. Isaiah 30:18

He loves you and came for you and He is asking you to come to Him. He wants you to receive His gift of love, which is present salvation and eternal salvation. His love is a gift and is a decision that is made in faith. You will not be disappointed. This is the promise He makes to you but you must believe and trust in His Word.

For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.” Romans 10:11

The following is a simple explanation of how to receive God’s gift of love and forgiveness in and through Jesus Christ:

A: Acknowledge that you have messed up and can never be “good enough” and that you need a Savior and Lord. “for all have sinned” Romans 3:23

B; Believe in what Jesus Christ did on the cross to save you. “For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;” I Peter 3:18. Believe that He died, was buried and rose again. He is alive today and will become the Savior of those who put their trust in Him the moment they choose to believe in Him to be their personal Lord and Savior.

C: Confess Jesus Christ as Lord of all and Lord of your life. “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.” Romans 10:9,10

Prayer is talking to God, through Jesus Christ. A simple prayer that can be prayed to receive Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior is:

Dear God, I need you. I have failed in my actions, my thoughts and my life. I can never be perfect. Will you please forgive me of all of my failures and forgive me for never being “good enough” to please you. Thank you for your love in sending your Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for me to forgive me of all of my failure and offering eternal life. By faith, I receive the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ and what He did for me. Thank you for giving me eternal life and for the privilege of becoming your child. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray this prayer, Amen

If you prayed this prayer: The moment you receive Jesus Christ you become God’s child. “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,” John 1:12. Your sins are forgiven and you have been transferred into God’s kingdom and rescued from Satan’s kingdom. “For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:13,14. You also become the recipient of God’s great love. “See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are.” I John 3:1a. You have eternal life. “And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.” I John 5:11-13

If you prayed this prayer of receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior then by faith, pray and thank Him for each of these things that He has done for you.

Start reading your Bible and do what He tells you to do so that you will learn to live in His love for you. “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.” I John 5:3

A Life with Security

We all long for security. It is a basic human need. However, no other human can offer it and no government or human institution can offer security. Security has to come from something that will never change and something that is much bigger than ourselves. Something that only does good towards us and something that we can trust completely. Something that knows our needs and has the power and knowledge to meet those needs. That “something” is a loving God. There is only one God and He is able. He loves us perfectly and He has the power and knowledge to meet our needs. He never changes. We can trust Him completely.

“Remember this, and be assured;
Recall it to mind, you transgressors.
“Remember the former things long past,
For I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is no one like Me,
Declaring the end from the beginning,
And from ancient times things which have not been done,
Saying, ‘My purpose will be established,
And I will accomplish all My good pleasure’; Isaiah 46:8-10

There is none like Him. There is no other God and there is no one else who knows the end from the beginning. Whatever He desires He does and His purposes will be established. He will accomplish all His good pleasure.

The things that you carry are burdensome,
A load for the weary.
They stooped over, they have bowed down together;
They could not rescue the burden,
But have themselves gone into captivity. Isaiah 48:1b,2

The things that you put your security in will become a burden. They will make you weary trying to carry them. They will bring you down into a mental slavery as you seek to make them your security. They will ultimately fail you, whether it is money, insurance, stocks, people, government or any other thing. You will end up being disappointed for they can not deliver you from your insecurity.

“Listen to Me, O house of Jacob,
And all the remnant of the house of Israel,
You who have been borne by Me from birth
And have been carried from the womb;
Even to your old age I will be the same,
And even to your graying years I will bear you!
I have done it, and I will carry you;
And I will bear you and I will deliver you. Isaiah 46:3,4

Only God can provide security. He will carry you and He will bear you and He will deliver you from the moment you put your faith in Him to the end of your life. The remnant of Israel are those who through faith have received the righteousness of God. They are the true Israel who have been borne by Him, that is, born again by Him.

Isaiah cries out concerning Israel, “Though the number of the sons of Israel be like the sand of the sea, it is the remnant that will be saved; Romans 9:27

Now that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident; for, “The righteous man shall live by faith.” Galatians 3:11

It is those who have been born again into the family of God who are the true Israel. Those who through faith have received Jesus, the Christ, the Messiah. It is through faith in Jesus Christ that we enter into His kingdom.

Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ John 3:5-7

Those who trust in anything other than Jesus Christ can have no true security either in this world or the eternal world. They will have insecurity in this life and an eternal world of torment in the life to come. Those who have made the Lord their trust will have security in this life and in the next life. They will also have comfort and He will carry them even in their old age. He never changes and His love for those who trust Him never changes.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, I John 4:18a

for God is greater than our heart and knows all things. I John 3:20b

If you are weary from carrying your burdens or from seeking your own security then come to Him. He loves you. He invites all to come to Him because Jesus Christ died for all. He will give you the rest and security that you long for in this life and in the next life.

 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

A Life that Counsels

We all need counselors in our lives and when we have good counselors then there will be peace, quietness and confidence. When there are good counselors in the land then the nation will have peace, quietness and confidence. A good counselor will tell you what is the right thing to do in any given situation.

Isaiah 32:17,18 And the work of righteousness will be peace,
And the service of righteousness, quietness and confidence forever.
Then my people will live in a peaceful habitation,
And in secure dwellings and in undisturbed resting places;

A life that gives good counsel is a life that listens to the Word of God and stands in the counsel of the Lord.

Jeremiah 23:22 But if they had stood in My council,
Then they would have announced My words to My people,
And would have turned them back from their evil way
And from the evil of their deeds.

The only good counsel is the council of the Lord. What you listen to is what you will give to others. For this reason it is of most importance that a Christian does not listen to the counsel of the ungodly but learns to meditate of the Word of God.

Psalm 1:1,2 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.

You must listen to the Lord’s counsel before you give counsel to others. The Lord’s counsel is often different to that of the world or even “current” Christian counsel. His Word never changes and what was applicable in His Word two thousand years ago is just as applicable today.

Psalm 16:7 I will bless the Lord who has counseled me; Indeed, my mind instructs me in the night.

The Lord is faithful and He will counsel you but you should not counsel someone else if you yourself are not listening and doing the counsel of the Lord. In the same way, do not go to someone for counsel who does not have the fruit of an obedient life.

Psalm 32:8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.

A wise person will grow in wisdom and understanding and a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel. The Bible says that a “man of understanding” is one who knows the Lord. A good counselor is one who knows the Lord and walks with Him in obedience.

Proverbs 1:5 A wise man will hear and increase in learning, And a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel,

Anyone who plots evil against the Lord, His people or Christianity is a wicked counselor. Stay away from them. They will destroy your life, your marriage, your children and all that is precious to you.

Nahum 1:11 From you has gone forth
One who plotted evil against the Lord,
A wicked counselor.

Give heed to the Lord and what He has to say and listen to godly counselors who counsel you in His Word. Research the counsel that you hear to see if it is consistent with what the Lord says. Don’t walk in your own counsels and do what you want to do. Rather walk in the Lord’s counsels and what He says and do what you ought to do.

Jeremiah 7:24 Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but walked in their own counsels and in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward and not forward.

As you go forward in your walk with the Lord and grow in the knowledge of Him then He will use you to give godly counsel to others and those who listen will turn to the Lord and learn to walk in His ways. As for you, your life will overflow with great joy and the light of Christ will shine brightly through you.

Daniel 12:3 Those who have insight will shine brightly like the brightness of the expanse of heaven, and those who lead the many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.

When you lead others to righteousness then they will know His peace and His quietness and His confidence. They in turn will be a guide to their neighbors and will lead others to Him.

Proverbs 12:26 The righteous is a guide to his neighbor,
But the way of the wicked leads them astray.
