Everything that each person does in life is a response to his or her view of God. Man’s greatest need is to have the correct view of God. The Lord is the Truth and He is the author of all truth. There is no truth apart from Him. When you know the Lord then you will know the truth.
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. John 14:6
If you do not know the Lord then you will not be able to discern between truth and error. When you can’t discern the truth then you will be tempted to lean on your understanding. You will choose what “makes sense” to you.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5
Truth is an absolute and never changes. When a person’s life is built on truth then they will have a stability that will carry them through the “dark” times of life when life does not seem to make sense. If you trust in your own heart and lean on your own understanding then your life will be like a roller coaster. Up one day and down another day. With the knowledge of truth comes wisdom and understanding. With wisdom comes instruction and understanding gives peace.
By wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established; Proverbs 24:3
Knowledge of the Lord brings understanding. God alone gives wisdom. When a person knows the Lord then their life will be filled with wisdom and understanding.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Proverbs 9:10
Truth will replace error and peace will replace doubts when you know the Lord and fear Him. Fearing God means that you have the ultimate respect for Him, so much so, that you follow His instructions in life. If you don’t know God then you will be tossed here and there like the waves of the sea as doubts will fill your mind and heart. If you do not follow His instructions then your life will become more and more unstable.
for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. James 1:6b-8
No one has ever seen God, the Father, but Jesus Christ is God’s only begotten Son and He is God. When we receive Jesus Christ into our life then we come into the knowledge of God. He who knows Jesus Christ also knows God. Jesus said, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father”. John 14:9b
Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; John 14:11a
When a person believes in Jesus Christ and calls on Him to be their Lord and Savior then the Holy Spirit comes to live within them . The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. He will guide the new believer in the truth.
But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; John 16:13a
When a new believer receives the Holy Spirit then he or she will also receive a hunger to know the Truth. God’s truth can be found in the Bible, which is His Word.
Your word is truth. John 17:17b
As a believer receives God’s Word into their life and they learn to follow His truth then the believer will grow in the love and knowledge of the truth. Their life will be transformed as they learn to respond to the truth. They will be filled with much peace. They will learn to feast on His kindness after tasting of His kindness and love through the salvation that comes through Jesus Christ. They will have stability and their life will be a light to others who are still living in darkness.
like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord. I Peter 2:2,3
People often ask how someone can know that they have been saved. A person who has experienced God’s salvation through Jesus Christ will have a hunger for the Word of God. They will want to read His Word and they will want to follow His instructions. The outcome of such a life will be peace.
Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. John 14:27
They will have found the truth and not only the truth but the source of all truth. Out of their inner most being fill flow rivers of living water because they will have found life.
He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” John 7:38
Do you have His peace? Do you have a hunger to know the Lord and to know truth? Come to Him. He invites all who are thirsty for the living water to come to Him. The invitation is for everyone.
Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. John 7:37b
